Australian Government Scholarships for Nigerian Students 2012-2013
Australian Development Scholarships (ADS) in Africa is offering scholarship for Nigerian students (and other selected African Countries) to undertake Postgraduate diploma or Masters Degree programs in Australia for 2013 intake (Annually).

 This program will focus in Education, Public Policy (including public sector reform, trade and diplomacy), Health and Agriculture/Food Security.
The Australian government has approved all institutions that are participating in the ADS program, so students can be confident they will receive the same high quality education at whichever institution they choose.

Eligibility
Applications may come from applicants employed in: the Public Sector; the Private Sector; and the Civil Society Sector. People with disability are encouraged to apply, as are women and people from rural areas.

Applicants that meet the following criteria will be considered:

• You are a national of Nigeria.
• You are an early or mid-career professional working in an eligible sector, in one of the listed priority fields.
• You must not be more than 50 years of age at the date of your application.
• You must have at least two (2) years’ post-graduation work experience. This work experience must be in a role relevant to your proposed field of study and to your employment organisation type (e.g. public sector applicants should demonstrate public sector work experience, and so on). Preference will be given to candidates with greater periods of experience.
• You possess, as a minimum, a Bachelors degree (or the equivalent) of at least 4 years in length with a minimum mark of 3rd Class Division (3rd) or the equivalent average mark.
• You wish to undertake a Masters degree in Australia in one of the listed priority fields of study.
• You have a clear vision for how you will use the knowledge gained through the Masters degree to improve policy, practice or education in the proposed field of study.
• Female candidates and people with a disability are strongly encouraged to apply.

 

English Language Proficiency:To gain admission to an Australian University, applicants will need to have a level of English language competency as indicated by the following scores in an IELTS or TOEFL test:
(i) for IELTS, an overall band score of 6.5 or above with no individual band less than 6.0;
(ii) for internet-based TOEFL (iBT), an Overall score of 90 or above, with a written score of no less than 23;
(iii) for paper-based TOEFL (pBT), an Overall score of 577or above, with a written of 5.0.

The Australian universities administer the application of these requirements on a country by country basis.

Applicants from Nigeria do not need to prove their English Language Proficiency at this preliminary application stage, and usually do not need to prove it if selected for an award.
However, successful candidates are adviced to provide one of the following proofs of English language proficiency, because it can help prevent English-proficiency problems during the process of applying for a course at an Australian Institution.

Candidates that have studied at a University within the last five years which instructed in English may present an official letter from that institution indicating that the medium of instruction was English.
Candidates that have been out of University for longer than five years, but have worked recently in a professional environment that used English as the main language, may present a letter signed by their employer confirming that English was the medium of interaction in the workplace.

In certain cases, Australian Universities may require additional proof of English even in situations where letters from the University or workplace have been provided.

Application DeadlineDeadline for Submission for 2013 intake is 28 February 2012
We encourage applicants to submit their applications earlier than this if possible.
Successful applicants for the 2013 intake will be contacted for an interview. Interviews are currently scheduled to begin from early May 2012.

Please note that you should apply for only ONE type of award per year. For example, if you have applied for a short-course award, you should NOT apply for a Masters award.
You are also encouraged to apply separately to an Australian Institution for your preferred course. If you do so, please provide the provisional acceptance letter as part of your AAA preliminary application. If you have been provisionally accepted by an Australian Institution, it may benefit your application for an award.
